Zoom Webinar "Lessons from Lahaina" wildfire preparedness"on Tuesday, Nov. 18

In August of 2023, all of us were shocked by the wildfires that devastated Lahaina, Hawaii, and immediately began wondering how to prevent such tragedies from happening on Chappy.

In response to that event — and knowing that wildfires/emergency preparedness ranked third on our island-wide priorities survey — the CIA has created a Zoom presentation, "Lessons Learned from Lahaina" on Tuesday, November 18th, from 5-6:15pm.

The Zoom, which is open to all (including non-Chappy residents), will feature "live" guest panelists from both the Hawaii and the Maui Emergency Management Agencies (EMAs). These professionals will talk about the valuable learnings from their island’s experience, including insights about Maui’s wildfire "fuel reduction" program.

Copy this Zoom connection and use it on the day of the event. We will also circulate it a few days before:

The Zoom will feature a short presentation followed by a Q&A session with our Hawaiian guests. If you're unable to attend, both a video as well as written recording of the event will be available shortly afterwards.

We thank our friends at the Edgartown Fire Department for their successful Chappy Fire Prevention Day (with Smokey the Bear!) that was recently held at our firehouse. We hope that event, and this Zoom, will kick off an important and ongoing discussion about fire prevention and safety on our special island.

Sincerely,
The Board of the Chappaquiddick Island Association
